R.I.P.

Today, we received very sad news.
Our goddog, Jack, a handsome 12 1/2-year old black Labrador Retriever, went to join Koko, in doggie heaven.

Jack was born a month earlier than Besi, and he practically grew up with Besi & Birdie.
We would dogsit Jack on occasion when his parents, Bob & Mary, had to go out of town. We enjoyed all those moments together with him. We treated him as our own dog. We even asked Bob & Mary, if we were to be the designated godparents to Jack, if anything bad should happen to them (knock on wood). We were happy they informed us that we were.

Several months ago, the Longos moved out of Playa del Rey and relocated to Chicago. We were sad to see them go.

We gathered that three months ago, Jack had to have throat surgery which served to improve his breathing.

Yesterday, he was rushed to the Vet for what turned out to be a very painful bout of pancreatitis. Bob & Mary got a call from the vet early this morning advising them that Jack was going into heart failure. They read off a laundry list of measures they would typically take, but as the vet said, “It’s time”. They went to the vet’s office and had him laid to rest. It was so bittersweet to see that last hint of a tail wag. It was very sad, but peaceful; he simply went to sleep with Bob holding his head and Mary stroking his ears.
As Bob & Mary said, "Jack had a great life. And, I have wonderful memories of our “partnership” out in the hunting fields, playing fetch in the park, or just dutifully keeping me company in my home office for so many years. "

Bill and I are very much grieving this loss as well. We hugged Besi & Birdie a little bit longer than usual this morning as we shed tears for Jack.To a dog lover, losing a dog is like losing your child. We will miss him dearly.
